Kaj Kraus

Postdoctoral Scholar

Dr. Kaj Kraus is a postdoctoral associate in the Deaf Center at the Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. He studies how language and cognitive development are shaped by perceptual experience, language input, and modality.

His current work spans three projects that investigate (1) how early language skills relate to later language skills in deaf and hard of hearing children, (2) how early language planning relates to language outcomes in deaf and hard of hearing children, and (3) how iconicity influences sign language learning.

He earned a PhD in Linguistics from Gallaudet University with a dissertation titled “Investigating relationships between L1 English reading comprehension, nonverbal working memory, and L2 ASL receptive comprehension in deaf and hard of hearing adults.” He received a Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement grant from the National Science Foundation for this work.
