Franklin Jones Jr.

Franklin Jones, Jr is a multi-generation Deaf individual raised in Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina. He is the first in his family to receive a higher education degree. He is also an author, having published "Learn Black American Sign Language: A History and Complete Beginner's Guide with Over 200 Words and Phrases." He is a Lecturer of Deaf Studies at Boston University's Wheelock College of Education and Human Development. Franklin believes in creating a safe space for second language learners of American Sign Language, encouraging them to build strong ASL skills and deepen their knowledge of Deaf culture so both Deaf and hearing individuals can grow in a welcoming, empowering setting.

Franklin teaches various levels of ASL, Deaf history, and discusses Black American Sign Language. His aim is to bring inclusive materials that reflect diverse perspectives into the classroom so that students feel welcome and belong. He also encourages students to thrive in the classroom and become comfortable using ASL both in and outside of it.

Franklin is passionate about continuing to speak about Black American Sign Language, spreading awareness to everyone and leaving no one out. He has taken part in multiple keynote speaking engagements at various events to inspire Deaf youth, Black Deaf youth, and the Deaf community.
